Australian country singer-songwriter Fanny Lumsden is exploring the meaning of family traditions and personal identity with her fifth studio album, Traditions, released October 30.

In a recent interview surrounding the album’s release, Lumsden discussed how her rural Australian upbringing influenced the project and shaped her understanding of the customs passed down through generations.

The 11-track collection reflects on family connections, changing perspectives and the choices people make about which traditions to preserve or leave behind.

Lumsden also continues to build on her success in Australian country music. Her previous album, Hey Dawn, won Best Country Album at the 2023 ARIA Awards, with Dolly Parton announcing the winner. Parton remains an important musical influence for Lumsden.

The new project also highlights Lumsden’s creative relationships, including work with Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly and her longtime band, The Daddies.

With Traditions, Lumsden brings together personal storytelling and country music influences, drawing on her family history while reflecting on how traditions can evolve across generations.
