Six people were hurt Sunday evening after a stabbing at New York’s Penn Station, one of the busiest transit hubs in the United States.
The Associated Press, citing authorities, said the attack happened around 7 p.m. inside the station, which sits below Madison Square Garden and serves Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road, NJ Transit and subway riders. A suspect was taken into custody after the incident, but officials did not immediately release the person’s name or possible charges.
City fire officials said one victim had serious injuries, two had moderate injuries, and two had minor injuries. Those five people were taken to Bellevue Hospital. A sixth person was brought to another hospital, and that person’s condition was not immediately known.
Authorities had not released details about what led to the stabbing or whether the victims were targeted.
The incident came less than a day before Madison Square Garden was set to host Game 3 of the NBA Finals, an event expected to bring large crowds and added security to the area.
